'Happy tails' from our recent patients

From the puppy rescued from the streets of Tangier riddled with ticks, to May’s mange transformation, and another brilliant success story from our pangolin raids in the Philippines, keep reading for some heart-warming good news from our projects here at IAPWA.

Remember the little puppy rescued from the streets of Tangier, his little body crawling with hundreds of ticks?

This sweet little boy – known as ‘ticky ticky pup’ to those who care for him – has been on a very bumpy journey. But we’re pleased to say that he’s finally come out the other end as a happy, healthy puppy. Not only did he have to overcome severe anemia and endure the removal of all of those nasty ticks, but he then caught a deadly infection and we almost lost him.

Thankfully, he is finally out of the woods and is the happiest he’s ever been, playing around care-free in his foster home with fellow patient Tiagra, counting down the days until he leaves for his forever home!

Thank you to everyone who supported this brave puppy, providing him with the second chance he deserved after such a sad start to life.

May was also rescued from the streets of Tangier. She was attempting to make it through each day in an incredibly weak state, with countless scabs and wounds across her frail body.

May had a severe case of the skin disease mange, causing her intense itching and loss of fur across a large part of her body. She has been in the care of the wonderful SFT team for many weeks now, and has improved drastically in that time.

Despite what she’s been through, May is such a lovely, well-natured girl and we’re so pleased we were able to support her through her recovery. She still has a little way to go, but she has overcome the worst of her hurdles.

Our fourth wildlife raid of the year sees another innocent life saved.

The team on the ground in the Philippines have intercepted a little pangolin that was being transported in a bamboo basket. He was on his way to be sold onto the black market for his meat and scales. Alongside the police in the Philippines, the team hunted the criminals down and got the pangolin to safety, putting a stop to yet more abhorrent wildlife trafficking. The pangolin is now receiving all of the care and support it needs after his horrific ordeal.

Despite this success, and the success of our previous raids, we know we need to go one step further.
